U.S. Military Chow facilities should switch to all-sourced organic food and liquids

One of the best ways to accelerate environmental and economic change in The United States is to legislate change at the federal level, to require a federal agency to act or conduct business in a certain manner, such as requiring federal agencies to source products they use from American producers, for example.

With such significant damages to our environment by the use of pesticides and herbicides in large scale farming operations, with such catastrophic ecosystem collapses the result of pesticide runoff and corporate farming operation emergency dumping, maybe the best way to bring an improvement to our environment is to require federal agencies to serve organically produced food at its military banquet facilities.

You might say, “Well nature boy, that’ll cost a fucking arm and leg.”

I’m not so sure. If done properly, phased in over a period of perhaps 10 years, it doesn’t have to be done overnight, and even a slight change at the federal level will have dramatic effects as The U.S. Military sources huge amounts of food from corporate food producers to provision military chow halls.

So, even though it might appear expensive at the onset, the costs saved from environmental cleanup will counter-balance those costs as another U.S. Agency, The Environmental Protection Agency, won’t be as busy as a result of having to police fewer poisonings of our environment, our ground water, you name it.

But that’s not the only savings and this one is huge! Rates of cancer will go down dramatically. Sicknesses related to the breakdown of human immune systems caused in particular by pesticide ingestion will become uncommon in the ranks. Organic milk would be a good start. Not only will it improve our environment but latent effects of certain growth hormones and antibacterial products will be taken out of the soldier’s body, thereby immediately improving his or her health both in the long-term and immediately.

The cost savings ultimately would be incredible as soldiers would be healthier and so would the environment and the public’s pocketbook, too.

All U.S. military branches should begin transitioning from mass produced corporate food stuffs used in military chow facilities to organically produced, for the sake of the soldier, airman or seaman, and the health of the general public.
